Who are you?
The film ‘Who are you?’ Is the account of a filmproject in Weert, The Netherlands. In 2015 Europe was flooded with Syrian refugees. Hundreds of thousands fled across the Mediterranean Sea to escape the war. In Weert 1000 Syrians were temporarily housed in former army barracks. They included about 250 children. After about 6 months, many children were able to speak the Dutch language, but had never met any Dutch children. With that realization, the project idea was born. Syrian children from the refugee center school teamed up with Dutch children from the local elementary school ‘Het Dal’. In a series of workshops in which they visited eachother's school, the children learnt how to conduct interviews and make short films together. They also learned about each others culture and language. In total 8 films were presented in a filmfestival in the local cinema. The children ‘actors’ and ‘directors’ were received on the red carpet in the presence of their parents and their fellow class mates.
